Meeting of ICAO TAG-MRTD/NTWG and ISO/SC17-WG3 22-24 July 2003, London (United Kingdom) ICAO TAG-MRTD/NTWG and ISO/SC17-WG3 will hold a combined, extraordinary meeting in London (UK) from 22nd through the 24th of July 2003 to explore key issues relating to the introduction and fast-track deployment of globally interoperable machine readable passports containing encoded details securely recorded in a Contactless IC(s). Recorded details will include information on the rightful holder and the issuing authority; as well as details that enable the machine-assisted identification of the presenter as the rightful holder of the travel document. The first two (2) days will cover specific areas of critical interest (i.e. each day will focus on a specific topic). An Ad-Hoc meeting of ICAO TAG-MRTD/NTWG will be held on the third day; i.e. held to consider the outcome of the two days of focused discussion in which industry experts will participate. The objective(s) of the first day (22 July 2003) will be to allow ICAO TAG-MRTD/NTWG and ISO/SC17-WG3 to meet with experts assembled from within ISO Sub-Committee 17, and the international banking community specifically to discuss: (1) Issues associated with successful introduction of IC(s) based identification cards and documents; and specifically those using Contactless IC(s) with the goal of achieving global interoperability for the reading of data and the confirming of the authenticity of the data; and (2) The experiences of the banking community in successfully achieving global interoperability of reading of data from IC(s) based documents (cards); the securing of the data stored within the IC(s); and the interchange of data between the document (card) and the reading device (terminal). Specific consideration will be given to the experiences relating to the development of EMV specifications. The objective of the second day (23 July 2003) will be to allow ICAO TAGMRTD/ NTWG and ISO/SC17-WG3 to meet with experts assembled from within the Information Technology (IT) security community specifically to discuss: (3) Issues associated with successful creation of a method of securing (protecting) data that can be implemented globally; i.e. one that not only ensures that data recorded within the IC(s) can be protected, but equally validated as authentic and unchanged from the original recording by a Receiving State. Specific consideration will be given to the recommendations of the IT security field and the financial community experts present on the most effective way of securing the data to be recorded in Contactless IC(s) used within MRPs …. and Machine Readable Travel Documents (MRTDs) in general. Experts from ISO Sub-Committee 17, the international banking community and the IT security community wishing to attend both days of focused discussion will be more than welcome to attend both days. Days one and two will be co-chaired by the Chairman of ICAO TAG-MRTD/NTWG (Mr. Gary McDonald) and the Convenor of ISO/SC17-WG3 (Mr. Joel F. Shaw). Mr. McDonald will chair the Ad-Hoc meeting of ICAO TAG-MRTD/NTWG to be held on the third day.
